The Maze Presents..

Friday 12th March 9pm / £4

March 12th at the Maze....4 Nottingham bands who will rock your world and bring you a sweatfest!!!

THE EVILTONES - The Eviltones deliver prime garage stomp with masterful surf-punk guitar, red raw vocals and a big bad hammerhead rhythm section pounding out the brutal and bloody backbeat to a concrete jungle call.

Worshipping and invoking the restless, haunted ancestry that runs from the delta blues through 60’s garage into punk rock; The Eviltones devilishly distil the myths and spectres from the dark side of rock’n’roll history into high-octane, prime slices of furious death-dance burn-out boogie.

The stage show is a super-charged molotov cocktail of spit, sweat and abandon. Short, sharp shocks to the head are delivered in a formidable and furious fashion as The Eviltones struggle to remain human in the grip of some voodoo freak-show fever.

KINGCLAW - A raw, rampaging unstoppable rock machine! KC bring you a psychedelic experience of 70's influenced rock n roll mayhem that twists and turns in a furious wave of dark rock!

HERE'S TO TRAGEDY - Explosive stage show, this band mix a catchy electro charged pop punk with the swagger and glamour of more 80's rock and metal and the dark intent of gothic punk. Think The Cure meets Greenday or Depeche Mode meets My Chemical Romance with AFI and Motley Crew crashing the party!

GRELMINS - First gig under this name....we can't tell you much about this band as ITS A SECRET but heres a small cue...'stupidly energetic and energetically stupid, Nottingham’s ubiquitous shouty bouncy five-piece have always been a great live act' Come find out who they are!

Revolution Sounds Presents....Franz Nicholay (World/Inferno Friendship Society)

Wednesday 17th March 8pm / £6

The word unique gets thrown around alot but this is one man who is truly unique!

Multi Talented session musician, Franz Nicholay, has pplayed, toured and written with bands such as The World/Inferno Friendship Society, The Suckers, Dresden Dolls, The Hold Steady and many more.

His solo album is a musical journey through jazz, gypsy, pop, rock, punk and circus stylings and has received rave reviews both in his native USA and in Europe.

Rolling Stone: "The Hold Steady keyboardist Franz Nicolay is best known for his classic boogie piano lines, jubilant backing vocals and sharply curving mustache, but his new solo album Major General looks to catapult him to star status."

Alt Press: 4 out of 5 "Punk rock, the musical: A collection of songs that paint vivid pictures...Nicolay's persona as a storyteller is something between Peter Hammill with a Mohawk and '70s-era Tom Waits. Like those master songsmiths, Nicolay serves it up hot, no matter what musical milieu is on the menu."
Q: "Recasting the windswept folk artist as someone with piratical swagger, he comes over like Nick Cave leading an American Pogues, and every see-saw rhythm is shot through with a potent, whisky-drenched drama. In other words, the man's a ham, but a terrific one."

Plus support from....

The Undercats - Nottingham's brilliant mix of jazz tingled, gypsy inspired, french folk and blues with guitars, violin, vocals and percussion!

Sam Kirk - Nottingham's own troubadour Sam Kirk has a contemporary old-fashioned style with a beautiful mix of mandolin and acoustic guitar

Triad and Friends

Thursday 18th March 8pm / £3 adv/£4 on night

TRIAD.....

Triad are a powerhouse rock & blues trio hailing from the Nottingham and Leicester areas. Triad were originally formed in early 2007...from the demise of three Midlands-based musical projects, the members of which sought new challenges. With power riffs, screaming Hendrix-inspired guitar solos, and an amazing set of classic rock & blues covers, with a little bit more added for good measure, Triad brings forth the non-standard route for the progressive rock-based blues band. Songs that most bands would not consider give us the edge, as we thrive on the more obscure and lesser known classic rock & blues songs. Triad injects its own style, bringing new life to amazing numbers from the past. Musical influences include Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Cream, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix, Humble Pie, The Small Faces, jazz, blues, classical, and pop...and so much more! The band therefore have a vast range of styles to select from for their live set list. Also in the pipeline is a string of classic songs that just might get the Triad treatment, done in the classic rock 'n' roll way, of course!! The band has also penned a selection of classic rock songs, which will be incorporated into the set when the time is right. Gigging, recording, rehearsing, perfecting and, above all, enjoying...that’s the Triad ethos. Over the years Malc, Mark and Jules have amassed considerable experience on the road, in the studio, or just simply playing loud rock 'n' roll...given half a chance! Three musicians, determined to play and keep alive the classic rock 'n' roll that made British music the greatest. Let the world enjoy and be part of the wonderful world of Triad. All in the name of ROCK 'N' ROLL!

Solomon Smith...

A local musician, now living in Spain. Solomons music bares the influences of Joe strummer, Lou Reed and the late Peter Tosh are clear for all to hear, combining a joyous love of music with astute political observation. His growing love of the music of Neil Young resulted in the creation of some touching love songs but even when performig these there is rarely a moment that he is not wearing a smile and communicating directly with his audience. Solomon has performed regularly in Pubs and venues since early 2000 but he is always in his element when standing in a busy city centre brightening up the streets and taking his love of music directly to the people. Solomon is making the trip back to the uk to support Triad on this tour.

Compere:Spiky Mike

The Maze presents...

Wednesday 24th March 8pm / £3

StoneRun - one of the best live rock n roll acts to play the stage of The Maze last year. i was expecting shoegazing-miserable-grunge-ness, i got powerful-energetic-sharp-in-your-face-rock-n-roll perfection. and i promise you, i'm not being over the top.

"The epitome of what a good, even great rock band should be. There are seldom bands whose stage presence is so electric. As songwriters they have the dexterity to create music which breaches the tight constraints in which this music appeals, making the songs, and the band, attractive on a wider spectrum. "

Lucy Topping - Counterfeit Magazine

Lux Mundi - Influences range from commercial pop music, to rock, metal and everything in between. It’s this dichotomy that allows the band to create music with an individual signature, depth and longevity, but also instant far reaching appeal.

Cosmic American present...Woody Pines

Thursday 25th March 7.30pm / £10

“Low fi from weird america's rural roots. railroad guitar, whiskey banjo and skeliton washboard. hi energy oldtime and juke blues.”

In a pinch, Pines and his pair of cohorts might be described as a group that makes the type of American roots music that sounds good coming out of a busted AM radio speaker. In a tinny but effective voice that would make Woody Guthrie and Bob Dylan proud, Pines croons about rounders, trains and good gals long gone, over a bouncy and unhurried blues picking style that keeps toes tapping with ease." ~ High Country Press, Boone, N. Carolina
