Revolution Sounds Presents....Franz Nicholay (World/Inferno Friendship Society)
Wednesday 17th March 8pm / £6
The word unique gets thrown around alot but this is one man who is truly unique!
Multi Talented session musician, Franz Nicholay, has pplayed, toured and written with bands such as The World/Inferno Friendship Society, The Suckers, Dresden Dolls, The Hold Steady and many more.
His solo album is a musical journey through jazz, gypsy, pop, rock, punk and circus stylings and has received rave reviews both in his native USA and in Europe.
Rolling Stone: "The Hold Steady keyboardist Franz Nicolay is best known for his classic boogie piano lines, jubilant backing vocals and sharply curving mustache, but his new solo album Major General looks to catapult him to star status."
Alt Press: 4 out of 5 "Punk rock, the musical: A collection of songs that paint vivid pictures...Nicolay's persona as a storyteller is something between Peter Hammill with a Mohawk and '70s-era Tom Waits. Like those master songsmiths, Nicolay serves it up hot, no matter what musical milieu is on the menu."
Q: "Recasting the windswept folk artist as someone with piratical swagger, he comes over like Nick Cave leading an American Pogues, and every see-saw rhythm is shot through with a potent, whisky-drenched drama. In other words, the man's a ham, but a terrific one."
Triad and Friends
Thursday 18th March 8pm / £3 adv/£4 on night
TRIAD.....
Triad are a powerhouse rock & blues trio hailing from the Nottingham and Leicester areas. Triad were originally formed in early 2007...from the demise of three Midlands-based musical projects, the members of which sought new challenges. With power riffs, screaming Hendrix-inspired guitar solos, and an amazing set of classic rock & blues covers, with a little bit more added for good measure, Triad brings forth the non-standard route for the progressive rock-based blues band. Songs that most bands would not consider give us the edge, as we thrive on the more obscure and lesser known classic rock & blues songs. Triad injects its own style, bringing new life to amazing numbers from the past. Musical influences include Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Cream, Rory Gallagher, Jimi Hendrix, Humble Pie, The Small Faces, jazz, blues, classical, and pop...and so much more! The band therefore have a vast range of styles to select from for their live set list. Also in the pipeline is a string of classic songs that just might get the Triad treatment, done in the classic rock 'n' roll way, of course!! The band has also penned a selection of classic rock songs, which will be incorporated into the set when the time is right. Gigging, recording, rehearsing, perfecting and, above all, enjoying...that’s the Triad ethos. Over the years Malc, Mark and Jules have amassed considerable experience on the road, in the studio, or just simply playing loud rock 'n' roll...given half a chance! Three musicians, determined to play and keep alive the classic rock 'n' roll that made British music the greatest. Let the world enjoy and be part of the wonderful world of Triad. All in the name of ROCK 'N' ROLL!
